Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Dupondius (Orichalcum, 31 mm, 12.87 g, 1 h), Lugdunum. Struck under Augustus, 9-14. CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE Laureate head of Augustus to right. Rev. ROM ET AVG Front elevation of the Altar of Lugdunum, decorated with the corona civica between laurels and stylized figures; altar flanked by columns surmounted by statues of Victory standing vis-à-vis, each holding palm frond in her right hand and wreath in her left. BMC 566. Cohen 237. RIC 232. A beautiful piece struck on a very broad flan. Thin flan crack, otherwise, very fine.
